An Energy-saving Boost

LED lighting is gradually driving out traditional equipment. According to Strategies Unlimited, the LED market’s growth during the next few years will accelerate and its volume will reach 25.9 billion US dollars by the year 2018.

The major consumer sector for LEDs will be the lamp and lighting fixture industry. This segment is the major one even today and by 2018 its share is forecast to reach to 57 percent.

Analysts believe the growth of the LED components market is a direct indication of the global significance of LED systems.

The largest regional markets for LED lamps and luminaires today are the European, the North American and the Chinese..

According to a forecast by LEDinside in 2015 the total share of the European, the North American and the Chinese markets for LED lamps and luminaires will amount to 63 percent.

Experts of Strategies Unlimited estimate that the largest segments of LED lighting devices consumption internationally are commercial, architectural, industrial and outdoor illumination. By 2018 outdoor illumination usage is estimated to demonstrate the fastest growth.

Generally, the Russian market’s trends are in line with those of the world market. According to data from Research. Techart, the size of the Russian market for LED luminaires amounted to 13.7 billion rubles in 2013, whereas in 2009 it was estimated at 2.6 billion rubles.

During the initial stages of the Russian market’s evolution, the main driver of its development was state support (Federal Law FZ-261 “Concerning Energy Conservation” adopted in 2009). In 20132014 the declining trend of LED lighting prices made commercial drivers of market growth more apparent, which manifested themselves most evidently in such a segment as LED office lighting.

- Implementation of energy saving programmes by the major Russian corporations partly owned by the government resulted in the Russian market’s industrial lighting segment becoming somewhat larger than that of, for example, the European market, – comments Vadim Dadyka, Director General of AtomSvet, the manufacturer of LED luminaires. – And the segment of industrial LED lighting itself acts as a powerhouse of Russian LED industry’s development.

According to an estimate by Research.Techart, the volume of the Russian market for industrial LED luminaires amounted to 2.9 billion rubles in 2013 and is expected to grow to 6.9 billion rubles by 2018. This is encouraging the development of Russia’s industrial LED lighting manufacturers who now offer products that are often as good as products of the leading international brands. Today Russian manufacturers focus not only on the domestic market, they are building up global export including to the European countries.

In certain respects products manufactured by Russian companies even surpass those of European origin. As an example, in 2009 AtomSvet launched production of luminaires with an advanced optical system – the secondary optics, integrated with the protective glass. Such systems feature minimal optical loss, which results in increased luminous efficiency (lm/W). Today such optical systems are gaining wide acceptance within the Russian market and are spreading in Europe.
