The future of light

The Light+Building 2014 Exhibition held in Frankfurt at the end of March and beginning of April witnessed record-breaking attendance – more than 210 thousand visitors. The exhibition focuses on energy efficiency of lighting devices and building automation systems. A poll conducted by Messe Frankfurt revealed a high level of satisfaction on the part of both exhibitors and visitors. In November 2014 Moscow will host Interlight Moscow, an exhibition of decorative and technical lighting, electric engineering and house automation, which will carry on the traditions of Light+ Building.

In 2014 the Light+Building Exhibition yet again proved to be the leading global event addressing aspects of lighting equipment and building automation systems. This year a record-breaking number of visitors registered at Light+Building: in the course of six days its exhibits were viewed by 211.5 thousand visitors from 161 countries (which is 8% more than in 2012). Almost every other visitor of the exhibition (47%) came from abroad. The majority of the visitors represented such countries as Italy, the Netherlands, France, China and Austria. The number of visitors from Russia, South Africa, Mexico, Turkey and Indonesia increased substantially.

High internationalization of the event was another evidence of its leading position among international exhibition venues in the area of lighting equipment and building automation systems. The large proportion of foreign guests was an important aspect of positive evaluation of the exhibition’s results by its participants. “No other exhibition globally displays this number of innovations developed by manufacturers of lighting equipment and building automation systems in an ever-decreasing time scale. We can openly say that Light+Building 2014 Exhibition exceeded all our expectations. It has demonstrated conclusively that it is the leading exhibition of its sector,” — recounts Dr. Claus Mittelbach, the Chairman of the Central Association of Producers of Electrical and Electronic Goods of Germany (ZVEI).

This exhibition achieved record-breaking figures for all the main indicators: the number of participants grew by 7% — from 2,302 exhibitors in 2012 to 2,458 in 2014. The results of the Light+Building Exhibition exceeded the most ambitious expectations of its organizers. “Light+Building is a must for all businesses working in the area of lighting equipment and building automation systems,” — notes Wolfgang Marzin, the President of Messe Frankfurt GmbH. “In the course of the exhibition manufactured showed the enormous potential for energy conservation through innovative technologies they have developed, which are ready for the market."

Light + Building 2014 focused mainly on the issue of improvement of energy efficiency. Even now the industry is prepared to offer intelligent systems reducing the energy consumption of buildings and enhancement of comfort. Such systems are distinguished both by environmental and considerable economic benefits.

Resource preservation and energy efficiency are also important drivers of lighting equipment market development. The main aspect here is the transition from traditional illumination to energy-efficient light sources. Lighting accounts for almost 20% of the global electricity consumption. The modern LED equipment with intelligent light control makes it possible to reduce electricity costs by 70%. Furthermore, application of digital technologies in lighting equipment opens up new opportunities for its use and design, and enhances comfort and safety of its operation. That is why architects, interior designers and engineers were the largest group of attendees of the Light+Building Exhibition.

This year 24 Russian companies participated in the activities of Light+Building, a record-breaking number in the history of the exhibition. The majority of the businesses presented their solutions in the field of industrial, street and household LED lighting (Svetovye Technologii, AtomSvet, LEDEL, Varton, BL-Group and others). TRON presented an original project of room illumination control automation technology that has no equivalent anywhere in the world.

Light+Building was highly praised by both exhibitors and visitors. 90% of the exhibitors were pleased with its results and the same opinion was expressed by an impressive 98% of the visitors. The same percentage of respondents stated that they had achieved their purposes for visiting the exhibition. The majority (85%) of exhibitors reported to not only to have fulfilled their objectives but have been highly satisfied by the quality of its visitors.

On November 11—14 the Interlight Moscow Exhibition of decorative and technical lighting, electrical engineering and house automation will be held in Moscow, carrying on the traditions of the Light+ Building Exhibition. The project will be organized by Messe Frankfurt RUS. In 2013 its attendance grew by 13% (786 companies from 28 countries) as compared with 2012, and the exhibition area grew by 9%, which is yet another proof of its status of the largest international exhibition in the Russian Federation and countries of Commonwealth of Independent States in the area of decorative and technical lighting, electrical engineering and building automation.

Even now, eight months before the exhibition, 70% of the exhibition space is already bought out by companies from Russia, Belarus Germany, Italy, Finland, France, Poland, UAE and Turkey. They include WAGO, VosslohSchwabe, Ragni SAS, Fael, Ideal Lux, Kanlux, LUG, Varton, Svetovye Technologii, BL-Group, Amira, AtomSvet, Rainbow Electronics, Sonex and many others.
