AtomSvet ESCO: international and European certification (EC Directives)
Devoting great attention to quality of its products and services in the market of energy saving technologies AtomSvet in early 2013 has undergone a number of certifications:
- for the purpose of ensuring high quality, safety and environmental friendliness of the products;
- certification for compliance of the Company’s Quality Management System with the international ISO 9001:2008 Standard (certifying agency — “TÜV SÜD”).
It should be noted that though it was possible to “go the easy way” and certify its products in the Czech Republic, Singapore or Turkey (TÜV SÜD has divisions and laboratories there, too) AtomSvet deliberately selected one of the strictest laboratories (in Germany).
Development of the market and competition between producers set the challenge of enhancement of the products attractiveness in the international market. Assurance of high and stable product quality and positive company image lend a producer a competitive edge. The assessment of the products’ conformity with international standards and international certification provide such advantages and ensure a stable position of the company in the market. To conduct auditing and certification AtomSvet has selected the German division of one of the major European companies TÜV SÜD. An independent concern, it was founded in 1866 and is one of the leading international agencies providing engineering services. Over 400 thousand companies are clients of TÜV SÜD, and the concern’s certifying agency, TÜV SÜD Management Service issued 35,000 certificates in quality management alone. Today TÜV SÜD has over 800 types of quality marks developed for various applications, certifying quality, safety, environmental compatibility of products, and granting access to the US and European markets.
After certification AtomSvet was granted the right to mark its products with the following marks.
The first quality mark, “CE”, can be literally translated as “European Conformance”. The CE marking is mandatory for goods to enter European market, it says that the product conforms to the safety requirements of European Public Health and Environment Protection regulations and grants the goods the right of free circulation within EU states (over 27 countries).
The GS (Geprüfte Sicherheit, Proven Safety) mark is a German quality mark that certifies, at government level, the reliability and suitability of the products for sale. In order to ensure quality standards, a production audit was carried out, and the main assembly stages, internal record management, etc. were inspected. A series of annual compliance audits of production are performed during validity term of the certificate (5 years) to guarantee the consistence of manufactured products’ quality level.
Thereof, the RoHS certificate confirms limitations of use of hazardous substances and guarantees protection of consumer’s health and the environment.
The RoHS certificate regulates content of various hazardous and toxic substances in products. Primarily it limits the use of the following 6 hazardous substances:
- lead (Pb),
- mercury (H),
- cadmium (Cd),
- hexavalent chromium (chromium VI or Cr6+),
- polybromide biphenols (PBB),
- polybromide biphenol-ether (penta-PBDE).
AtomSvet is one of the few LED luminaires manufacturers that are adopting ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
Apart from certification of the products manufactured in March 2013, AtomSvet’s Quality Management
System was audited for compliance with the ISO 9001:2008 Standard.
The ISO 9001 Standard comprises uniform requirements for all areas of production; but during its implementation experts may optimize systems for specific business. Obtainment of ISO 9001:2008 certificate for Quality Management System is not an easy task even for smaller businesses producing highly specialized products.
Adoption of a quality management system contributes to the increase of depth of strategic planning of a company and enhances its risk management.
Quality management on all stages of production ensures, in its turn, that the final product will invariably be of high quality.
This is extremely important considering the fact that reputation of an enterprise in the field of quality becomes the determinative factor of the ability to compete in a market.
Main requirements of ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Standard:
- uniform requirements to Quality Management System of the enterprise;
- accountability of the company’s executive personnel;
- enterprise resource management;
- product (services) development processes;
- analysis, estimation and improvement of quality of products/services.
